Welcome to the Calendar Blog Hop

(If you wish to go to Tanya's Surprise Blog Hop, which goes through this weekend, please scroll down to the next posting and check out Kim's Not-So-Mini Album - there's a few special blog prizes there too!)
Welcome to the Calendar Blog Hop, hosted by Zeni, a true gem of a crafter and friend.  This hop will go from November 26-27 so we at LoveBug Creations hope you take the time to check out the amazing crafters who have donated their time and talent to participate.  The blog order is as follows:

Mama LoveBug is flying solo for this hop due to an impending birth of baby *** Cremar; Kimi sends her love to all…………………..

When our crafty friend Zeni invited me to participate in her Calendar Blog Hop, I was very honored to design something with the theme of “calendar”.  I wanted to create a piece of wearable art (aka brooch) that would coordinate with a calendar.  At first I thought about making a brooch from an old calendar, which would have worked except I didn’t have any interesting old calendars that I wanted to use.  So I searched the Internet and found a very intricate and ancient calendar used by the Mayan culture. The ancient Mayas invented a calendar of remarkable accuracy and complexity; it's one of the oldest!  Think about how vital your calendar is to keep you organized and engaged in each day’s events.  What would we do without a calendar in terms of knowing when major life events will occur?  There is a plethora of information on this culture and its calendar, which you can find at:

So with that in mind I took a picture of the calendar, designed some paper from it, and created a Mayan calendar brooch, which I would say is unique on several levels.

The Mayan Calendar Paper

Two shots of the finished project

This wearable art could be worn as a brooch, pinned to a scarf or purse, or threaded on a chain for a stunning pendant!

And what's a blog hop without some sweet, sweet, candy???  Here's what I have to offer - a cute stamp, a pack of flower embellies, and some darling Stampin' Up fabric. Think of the projects you could make with these!!

1. Become a follower of our blog; if you're already one - tell me!
2. Leave a comment, answer the question - "what's your favorite month and why",  and a way to get ahold of you.
3. We love all our fans but sad to say our blog candy must stay in the USA.

On Monday, November 28, a winner will be drawn by Kim (if she's not in the hospital yet.....LOL) and we'll post info.
Thanks for hopping by, and make sure you check out the next blog hop spot with Gloria - http://www.omascrafts.blogspot.com

Cyber hugs to all........Mama LoveBug

Getting Ready for Local Craft Shows - Tag It and Bag It!

This week’s assignment for the DT #1 from Paper Hoarders was to create a tag.  Due to the busy schedules of the PH members, it was decided to just post if you had a project; Mama LoveBug has tags, bags, brooches, other surprises, and cards ready for several local craft shows, one coming up Saturday, November 19, at Montpelier School (Ohio) on Brown Road from 10-4.

Here is my contribution to Tagging.

First I used my Cricut and Lacey Label cart for the base tag of red Core’dinations cardstock.  I then covered it with peppermint-striped paper and after embossing a piece of “left over from last Christmas paper”, I adhered that on top of peppermint stripes.  I also used my paper ripper on the top of the Christmas tree paper to give it a scalloped edge.  Then I adhered the other lacey label fancy frame on top of that.  I know I could have just cut out the basic tag using the peppermint paper but I like a tag with substance so I went the extra step to give it a little more character and girth.

Next I fussy-cutted (is that even a word??) two GFS characters, Ian and Anya, as my Christmas pair.  I colored them with watercolor pencils and glittzed them up with glitter pens.  I cut out the sentiments (again from some left over scraps), added some bling here and there, punched a hole towards the top, and threaded some red ribbon through it for an attachment to a package or a Christmas tree.

Thanks for stopping by; leave me a comment if you’d like, and have a super crafting day.  Cyberhugs!   Mama LoveBug………

Paper Hoarders DT Offering - Being Thankful!

For what and/or whom am I thankful?  Well, it goes without saying that I’m thankful for my family, my community, and my country.  From a Paper Hoarders point of view, I’m thankful for being in the company of wonderful crafters who take time to smell the roses!

For the Paper Hoarder Design Team #1 assignment by our craft guru, Tanya, we were to think about what we were thankful for and design a project for this.  The amazing Tanya, our fearless leader, has all the DT projects posted on her blog, located at
http://www.scrappinkymomma.blogspot.com/

Here’s what Mama LoveBug came up with:
"Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses." ....
Alphonse Karr

I used the following things:
* PK stamp of happy rose that I colored with watercolor pencils and glitzzed
* Spellbinders die cuts and 2" SU circles
* a googled sentiment, offset with twine and brad
* several layers of paper – autumn colors, plain and patterned
* some autumn embellishments such as leaves, bling, and rose
* threaded ribbon at the top and bottom of my base layer
* corner chomper
* and lots of thankful love

Thanks for stopping by and always be  “thankful for” someone – it makes our time on earth more meaningful!  Cyberhugs………….Mama LoveBug
